Participants will have the chance to discover what
the world’s water experts have to say at the biggest event of its
kind in the Middle East, through water related technical sessions, dynamic
business lunches, facility tours and an exhibition showcasing state-of-the-art
products.
The International Water Demand Management (WDM) Conference, held at the
Dead Sea under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II and organized
by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation in Jordan in cooperation with
the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is designed
for regional and international practitioners and experts in water issues
to share concepts, research, technologies and experiences on the most
efficient use of water.
On the sideline of the conference, there will be 21 professional development
workshops, focusing on the latest water policies, trends and technologies,
and will be presented by first class water professionals and experts from
around the world. There will be in-depth topics on demand management,
identifying water loss, and water conservation and supply alternatives
and how they can affect a utility’s costs, rates, operations, and
service reliability. Other topics include practices and techniques of
social marketing, an important tool for demand management. Participants
in workshops will leave with strong, practical skills they can implement.
One of the crucial workshops-- the recycling of grey water-- will introduce
participants to essential methods, procedures and installation of grey
water systems. It will also discuss when they are appropriate and the
health hazards associated with poor management of such systems.
The series of business lunches will give guests a chance to hear from
private sector leaders who have introduced advanced water conserving technologies
into their workplace. The participants will be exposed to various prominent
professionals and companies. One such is the director of the largest desalination
plant in the Middle East. Dr. _____________ will discuss new trends, case
studies and experiences deriving drinkable water from saltwater or brackish
water sources. At another session a representative from a leading global
water services company, will lead a discussion on the benefits of customer
relationships with water sector clients, with special attention to policy
and decision makers as well as senior managers of water programs.
An opportunity to look at Jordan’s exciting water structure is
also being offered through facility tours. Participants will not only
visit beautiful cities in Jordan like Karak and Aqaba, but will also get
a chance to see Jordan’s dams, wells, desalination plants and water
and energy-conserving villages.
One of the facility tours will take the registered guests to one of the
most important projects in Jordan, the Abu Zeghan Brackish Wells Desalination
plant. It was designed as a premium water treatment plant suitable for
drinking purposes for Jordanians with a capacity of 60,000 cubic meters
per day. Set amid the vegetation of the Jordan valley, the serpentine
drive to the plant will be an unforgettable scenic hour.
The high-profile nature of the conference, and the international stature
of many of the participants will help ensure a heavy turnout at the exhibition,
where organizations will promote their activities, and suppliers will
introduce their products to buyers and distributors from all over the
world. This lively exchange of ideas and contacts will also build awareness
and understanding of water management issues. For participating exhibitors,
this will give them a chance to build awareness of their individual company
or organization.
