Abstract
The International Arid Land Consortium, IALC, consists of nine member institutions: seven of which are in the United States of America and three are in the Middle East. The board of directors is comprised of two members from each of the member institutions. The research and demonstration advisory committee, RADAC, provides the consortium with guidance, reviews and evaluations of the consortium research and demonstrations activities.
The Jordan component of the sustainable development of drylands in Asia and the Near East project is a multilateral United States Agency for International Development, USAID, funded project. The goal of the project is to support the sustainable development, management, and restoration of arid and semiarid lands in Jordan.
The objectives of the project are materialized by providing different technical assistance activities to Jordanian institutions involved in the implementation of USAID – Jordan Mission – bilateral projects in the areas of environment, water, wastewater reuse and agriculture. The International Arid Land Consortium executes all these activities through the Badia Research and Development Program, BRDP.
The activities consist of providing technical assistance to the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, ASEZA; cooperating with the Royal Scientific Society, RSS, on research and monitoring programs, conducting technical training workshops in the area of the reuse of recycled water and biosolids in agriculture, providing capacity building to educational and research centers in Jordan, providing training on laboratory techniques, holding seminars, workshops and conferences in the area of sustainable wastewater reuse.
