Abstract
Given the precarious water situation in Jordan, a refined water demand projection is necessary in order to establish the appropriate demand management measures that help balancing water demand with available resource. Within the scope of the National Water Master plan, software tools were developed to project the current consumption into the future. The current consumption for the municipal, touristic, industrial and irrigation sectors is described. Irrigation uses make up the biggest share of these four uses. The development of future water demands in the four sectors is described subsequently, with the largest growth to be expected in the municipal and industrial sectors. The high population growth rate will boost municipal demand to almost 500 MCM/a in 2020, from a consumption of 163 MCM/a in 2001.
