WDM in MENA Region: Building on the Research of IDRC (June 1, 2004)

Dr. Lamia El-Fattal, a Senior Program Officer at the International Development Research Center (Canada) will present a short synthesis of IDRC’s research activities and findings in WDM in the Middle East and North Africa Region. The second presentation will be conducted by Ms. Lorra Thompson, the Project Coordinator of the IDRC Water Demand Management Initiative. Ms. Thompson will provide an overview of the goals, objectives, methodology and activities of the Water Demand Management Initiative (Phase II) to interested participants, NGO’s, academics and policy-makers and solicit their input on the project and potential areas for collaboration.

Public-Private Partnership in the Water Sector, SUEZ-ENVIRONNEMENT (June 2, 2004)

Desalination – the Emerging Alternative (June 3, 2004)

In several countries, desalination is no longer a marginal water resource. Given that 39% of the world lives within 100km of the sea, and the limited capacity of groundwater resources along with climatic variability, the potential for development of desalination is very high. Join the business lunch and listen to Eng. Koussai Quteishat, Director of the Middle East Desalination Research Center, Muscat, Oman, as he discusses the center’s experience deriving drinkable water from saltwater sources in the Middle East. New trends, case studies and the economics of desalination will all be covered.
